Chihuahua

Appearance: The Chihuahua is proof that big things come in tiny, shivering packages. They are one of the smallest dog breeds, featuring a graceful, compact body and a 'saucer-shaped' head with large, erect ears and big, luminous eyes. Whether they have a smooth or long coat, they always look like they're bracing for a cold breeze.

Traits & Characteristics: Chihuahuas have the personality of a 100-pound guard dog trapped in a 5-pound body. They are fiercely loyal to their 'person' and can be quite sassy with strangers. They are highly intelligent and surprisingly fast, often ruling the household with an iron (albeit tiny) paw.

Origins: Mexico, specifically the state of Chihuahua, where they are believed to be descendants of ancient techichi dogs.
